St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Glenside will host its annual Oktoberfest on Saturday, September 30, from 12:00pm to 6:00pm.
The afternoon will feature plenty of German-style food from Rieker’s Prime Meats in Fox Chase, drinks (and beer), music, bouncy houses for the kids, pony rides, face painting, and dance programs, which will include traditional German folk dancing and a performance by Cassidy Dance Studio.
To make the whole thing work, more than 140 volunteers spend Friday and Saturday at St. Paul’s preparing and executing all things Oktoberfest.
Now in its 14th year, the event began as a way to raise funds for the Lutheran Disaster Response – Eastern Pennsylvania. In 2022, $9,000 was sent to the organization.
The most raised on record was approximately $15,000 in 2015, and pastor Henrik Sonntag hopes those numbers return.
“Though we’re still strongly supported by our sponsors, including Thrivent, the costs have gone up, which eats into what we can send away,” Sonntag said. “The silent auction used to raise more as well, so it’s a combination of things.”
