The Huntingdon Valley Fire Company shared that Emil Dix, a 68-year member, was recently honored for celebrating his 90th birthday.

According to the company, Mr. Dix has served as a firefighter, a lieutenant, a chief engineer and currently serves as secretary for HVFC and the fireman’s relief association.

Chief Ted Middleman and President Craig Colbert presented Mr. Dix with a commemorative helmet and shield and a cake with 90 candles.

“We normally don’t recommend that the general public do this on a birthday cake, but as your volunteer professional firefighters we were confident that all safety measures had been taken,” the company said in a post.

“Tradition, sacrifice, service and our identity as Huntingdon Valley Fire Company mean a lot to us,” the post continued. “Emil embodies the very best traditions of the volunteer fire service as found in Huntingdon Valley Fire Company. Thank you Emil for your years of service and we wish you all the best as you celebrate your 90th birthday and continue serving our community!”
