What else is going on?

Old York Susquehanna project: coming up on a decade, I’ve been working on it since I’ve been a commissioner. The idea is to use state grant money to purchase the properties near Vintage, plus a property on Susquehanna, demolish them, and make improvements to the intersection that have been a long time coming. It’s designed crooked by William Penn himself, that’s how old it is. It’s been a mess and causes traffic to back up on both sides of Susquehanna, so people overflow to Highland and Huntingdon Road, congesting both.

Redo the intersection so that there’s a safe, efficient turning radius and a safe intersection for public transportation, bikes, pedestrians. It’s been delayed for years for multiple reasons, and ultimately we were never able to Paek’s martial arts building. Eminent domain wasn’t supported by a majority, and the Board has a wrought history with eminent domaining. Fortunately, Township staff, including Mike Jones and Tim Clark, came up with a plan to do a lot of the improvements without acquiring and demolishing the property. 1100 – 1106 were acquired, they’ve been empty and everyone wants those eyesores gone.

At a recent meeting we approved contractors for the demolition and the environmental remediation which follows. Demo will begin in the near future, but before that time, we’re going to have a meeting with the intersection’s nearby neighbors and the folks on the other side. We want everyone to know what to expect.

Meeting date: Forthcoming.
