SoMont Cycling & Philly Wiss Youth Mountain Bike Team pre-registration now open

SoMont Cycling & Philly Wiss Youth Mountain Bike Teams, chapter teams of local 501c3 non-profit Independence Youth Cycling (IYC), have announced that pre-registration for the 2023 youth mountain bike season is now open.

The IYC organization, which started in 2016, has been a leader in promoting youth cycling in lower Montgomery County and Northwest Philadelphia. The SoMont and Philly Wiss teams participate in the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Cycling League (PICL) and the National Interscholastic Cycling League (NICA).

In 2022, the Independence Youth Cycling family of teams supported 85 student athletes and over 60 coaches. The organization is committed to creating a positive and supportive environment for young athletes to grow and develop their skills in mountain biking.

“There are not enough words to describe what this team has done for my son and our family. From the financial support, making us feel important to the team. The energy that the staff gives to all families is a true blessing,” a parent said.

The teams offer programs for riders of all levels, from beginners to advanced riders. The team’s experienced coaches provide a safe and fun environment for riders to develop their skills and build confidence on the trails.

“We are thrilled to offer pre-registration for the youth mountain bike season,” said a spokesperson for Independence Youth Cycling. “We believe that cycling is a great way for young people to stay active, make new friends, and learn important life skills. Our team is dedicated to providing a positive and supportive environment for all riders, and we look forward to welcoming new members to our community.”

See below for some general guidelines for the youth mountain bike season:

– Boys and girls grade 6-12 starting fall 2023 school year
– Practice season starts July 1, 2023
– Event season late August thru end of October
– Team Registration opens around April 15
– “TryIt Rides” and Get-to-know-ya events April and May
– Financial aid, bikes and equipment available
