Smoothie King, an international franchise focused on organic ingredients, will be blending soon at 100 York and Washington Lane in the Gateway Commercial District of Jenkintown.

The franchisees are currently working on signage permits and sewer approvals from Aqua America and the Department of Environmental Protection. The current building will be refitted, and is expected to open its doors by the year’s end.

“They’re a proven operator of a known franchise with an awesome product. There is anticipation for this project,” Borough manager George Locke said.

The wheels are in motion for a Starbucks at 610 York Road as well. The Borough recently received a Zoning & Use application that, if approved, would give the franchise its second branch in the Borough. A Starbucks already exists at 746 Old York Road.

“This ​Starbucks is an ‘allowable use’, but it has a drive through and that is a ‘conditional use’,” Locke said. “They were notified and received a review but have not filed for their ‘conditional use’ hearing before Council yet.”
