Sinkhole appears in Cheltenham Township, PennDOT to review

A highway construction inspector for PennDOT shared that a new sinkhole has appeared at the intersection of Ashbourne Road and New 2nd Street in Cheltenham Township.

According to the inspector (who happens to be a resident of Elkins Park), the sinkhole has been “gestating for a long time” via a decayed stormwater pipe and measures roughly 8’x3’x5′.

PennDOT is expected to be on site today to review the area and a timeline for its repair is unknown at this time, the inspector said.
