Service At The Montgomery County Court House

The three Montgomery County Commissioners jointly hosted An Appeal for Healing and Solidarity today at the Montgomery County Court House in Norristown.

The occasion was a multi-denominational, non-partisan, and non-political event in response to the mass shooting in Pittsburgh and other hate-inspired incidents in recent weeks and months, according to Montgomery County.

A number of civic and religious leaders attended this service.  Among the attendees at the service were, from left to right in the photograph above, Imam Mojjammil Zakir of North Penn Mosque, United States Senator Bob Casey, Montgomery County Commissioner Ken Lawrence, Rabbi Joshua Waxman of Congregation Or Hadash of Fort Washington, Montgomery County Commissioner Joe Gale, Senior Rabbi Glenn Ettman of Congregation Or Ami of Lafayette Hill, Cantor Jordan Franzel of Congregation Or Ami, The Reverend Ed Crenshaw of Victory Church, and Montgomery County Commissioner Chair Dr. Val Arkoosh.

The service focused on remembering the victims of Saturday’s shooting at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh and to stand against hate speech in our country, according to the leaders of Montgomery County.

Eleven American citizens were murdered as they sat in worship at the synagogue in western Pennsylvania.  In addition, The United States Attorney’s Office of the Western District of Pennsylvania reported that six other American citizens were wounded, including four police officers who rushed to the scene to try to help protect the Americans under attack.  The individual identified by law enforcement as the shooter was also wounded.
