Segment of Edge Hill Rd (Abington) and Chelten Hills Dr (Cheltenham) closed due to storm

In addition to 100+ power outages in greater Glenside on Tuesday evening, Abington Township Commissioner John Spiegelman posted at 11:55pm that Edge Hill Road is closed between Horace Avenue and Woodland Road due to a fallen tree branch which took out a streetlight and is resting on power lines.

Commissioner Spiegelman also reported that a car subsequently hit the branch and became stuck before being towed. The driver is without injuries though the vehicle is totaled.

Barricades have been ordered by Public Works, Spiegelman said.

“As for the Township overall, our community took a weather hit the likes of which I haven’t seen since the ice storm of February 6, 2014,” he said.

His announcement concluded with recommendations to report an outage:

• using the automated system by calling 800-841-4141 and hitting 2 for electrical issues and then 1 to report a total outage;
• reporting your outage via the PECO app (https://www.peco.com/…/customer…/contact-us/mobile-app);
• submitting your outage online at https://secure.peco.com/FaceBook/Pages/outagemap.aspx;
• texting “OUT” to 697326 (MYPECO).

In related news, Cheltenham Township Emergency Management announced that Chelten Hills Drive is closed between Heacock Lane and Church Road.

The closure is expected to remain in place through the morning rush hour, the announcement said.
