Scammers pretending to be from Montco Sheriff’s Office are targeting residents, DA says

The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office announced that scammers are calling area residents pretending to be members of the Sheriff’s Office.

“They falsely claim you missed jury duty and have an arrest warrant, then demand you deposit money into a Bitcoin ATM to avoid arrest,” the post said. “Don’t fall for it. Law enforcement will never call and demand payment to avoid an arrest or ask you to pay using cryptocurrency.”

If you believe you’ve been targeted or have fallen victim to this scam, you can contact Montgomery County Detectives at 610-278-3368.
