Roslyn Fire Company’s Christmas tree yard opens for the season

The Roslyn Fire Company’s annual Christmas tree yard is now open for the holiday season.

As WHYY points out, beyond spreading the holiday spirit, Christmas tree sales allow fire companies to afford better equipment and training, of particular significance given the area’s severe shortage of volunteers. According to a state legislative report, there were 300,000 volunteers during the 1970s and just 38,000 in 2018.

The number continues to shrink, thus the Montgomery County Fire Chief’s Association’s new recruitment website and a recently secured $686,000 four-year grant, which is intended to recruit new volunteer firefighters in the area.

The yard’s hours are 6:00pm to 9:00pm, Monday to Friday and 9:00am to 9:00pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
