The Rockledge Borough Police Department announced that it has received six reports of burglarized vehicles between Tuesday, June 11 and Wednesday, June 12.
Chief John Gallagher said that the incidents took place overnight, that most, if not all, targeted vehicles had windows broken or smashed, and that many, if not all, vehicles had tinted windows.
Two incidents occurred on Fox Street, three near N. Sylvania and Abington avenues, and one in the 200 block of Robbins Avenue, Gallagher said. According to an off-duty officer who lives nearby, there was at least one vehicle broken into along the Loney Street corridor going into Fox Chase.
Rockledge Police and Philadelphia Police believe these thefts were possibly committed by the same offender(s). Philadelphia police have contacted Rockledge officers to share intelligence, Gallagher said.
An on-duty Rockledge officer saw a male, approximately 6′ tall, wearing a gray-colored, hooded-style jacket walking on Abington Avenue between N. Sylvania Avenue and Park Avenue during the early morning hours of Wednesday. When the officer drove back around to investigate, the male was gone, police said.
The department is asking residents and business owners to report any and all suspicious-looking activity to police immediately.
Chief Gallagher encourages residents to target-harden their vehicles by taking the following actions:
- Park vehicles in private driveways, if available
- Park vehicles in well-lit areas along the street, if possible
- Do not leave valuables in plain sight inside vehicles
- Active vehicle alarm systems, if so equipped
- Use steering wheel locks on vehicles, if available
- Roll up all vehicle windows
- Remove vehicle keys and lock all vehicle doors
- Periodically check on parked vehicles
- Again, report suspicious-looking activity to police immediately by dialing 911 right away
