Replacement of Waverly Road bridge in Cheltenham to begin late January 2026, full detour planned

The replacement of the Waverly Road bridge (Montgomery County Bridge 275) in Cheltenham Township is scheduled to begin in late January or early February 2026, Montgomery County officials announced.

The bridge exists over the Tookany Creek and is located on E. Waverly Road between S. Keswick Avenue and Rices Mill Road, adjacent to Glenside Memorial Hall. According to the announcement, the county’s board of commissioners approved $3.1 million for construction services.

At the start of construction, a full detour will be implemented using S. Keswick Avenue and E. Glenside Avenue.

The bridge will be closed to all vehicles, but pedestrian access to Glenside Hall will be maintained through the completion of the project. Additional details regarding the project site and detour are available on the County’s project website, officials said.
