Representative Madeleine Dean of Glenside released a statement today regarding President Donald Trump’s 14-point Memorandum of Understanding with Iran, which was released Wednesday.
According to CNN, the document “spells out provisions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, easing certain financial restrictions on Iran and sets out expectations for addressing Iran’s nuclear program during future technical talks.” You can read each of the 14 points here.
Last week, Dean appeared on CNN to share her thoughts on Iranian peace negotiations:
A member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Dean said the following today:
“Yesterday President Trump signed the 14-point Memorandum of Understanding with Iran in the company of world leaders.
Revealing to all the world that Operation Epic Fury ends as Operation Epic Failure — a failure of the Administration to state their case for to Congress, and, more importantly, to the American people.
A failure to lead with a clear vision.
A failure to negotiate through diplomatic strength.
Leaving America and the world less safe.
We know that Iran must never have a nuclear weapon. Yet this deal does nothing to prevent that. It does nothing to address Iran’s support of terrorist proxy groups. It does nothing to ensure the safety and security of Israel and the greater Middle East.
The President assured the Iranian people that help was on the way — instead, the MOU would send hundreds of billions of dollars back to the murderous Iranian regime.
Despite the President’s failures — nothing can tarnish the extraordinarily brave men and women who served and sacrificed. We must honor and never forget the extraordinary excellence of our men and women in the military serving, the hundreds wounded, and the ultimate sacrifice of the 13 U.S. service members who gave their lives.
May God bless them and their families.”
