Rep Dean appears on CNN, MSNBC to discuss Trump administration’s plans to end the Dept of Education

Congresswoman Madeleine Dean of Glenside appeared on CNN today to discuss the Trump administration’s efforts to eliminate the Department of Education.

NBC News reported last week that while President Donald Trump is preparing another Executive Order on the matter, the outcome may be limited given that he “cannot unilaterally abolish a federal agency without the approval of Congress.” The article also notes that Trump signed another education-related order to expand school choice in late January.

“In total American society pours more than $1 trillion a year into public education systems, but instead of being at the top of the list, we are literally right smack — guess what — at the bottom,” President Trump said in a 2023 video.

The Education Department was established in 1979 during President Jimmy Carter’s administration.

“I’m all for ridding our government of waste. But providing for schools in need? Ensuring equitable education for students with disabilities, and rooting out discrimination? None of that is wasteful,” Rep. Dean said in a post. “Donald Trump and Elon Musk should focus their attention on actual misuses of taxpayer money — I suggest they start with the hefty tax breaks they’ve given themselves.”
