Zenos Frudakis, a resident of Glenside and a renowned sculptor, will be unveiling his 10-foot bronze sculpture of Muhammad Ali on Thursday, May 22, at 11:00am at the Laran Bronze Foundry, 310 East 6th Street in Chester.
The sculpture commemorates the iconic 1965 rematch between Ali and Sonny Liston and will be permanently displayed in Lewiston, Maine.
Frudakis, also known as “The Monument Man”, is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania’s Academy of Fine Art program and created the controversial Frank Rizzo statue at the City of Philadelphia’s Municipal Services Building.
He has also created bronze statues for The United States Air Force Memorial Honor Guard, and of historical figures such as Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., John D. MacArthur, Dame Lois Browne-Evans, Benjamin Franklin, Albert Einstein, General Dwight D. Eisenhower and Sir Winston Churchill, as well as contemporary figures like Sandy Tatum, Michael Kahn and Jack Nicklaus.
In May 2024, Frudakis contributed four sculptures—a buck, fawn, doe, and jaguar—to the Norristown-based Elmwood Park Zoo.
