Reckless driver causes accident after running red light in Glenside, injures juvenile pedestrian, 2 arrested

The Abington Township Police Department announced this evening that an accident occurred at the intersection of Jenkintown Road and Abington Avenue Glenside at 3:47pm on Friday, October 11.

According to police, a vehicle with two male occupants was driving in a reckless manner at a high rate of speed when it failed to stop for the red traffic signal at the intersection. The car subsequently struck a vehicle traveling through the intersection.

The first vehicle then careened onto the sidewalk and struck a 13-year-old female pedestrian who had been speaking with a crossing guard who had just led her across the road.

Both males then attempted to flee the scene on foot and were quickly apprehended by officers and placed under arrest, police said.

Police said the driver, Jason MacDonald, 21, from Philadelphia, will be charged with numerous felonies related to aggravated assault, reckless driving, and fleeing an accident.

The passenger, Goldwin Prince, 21, from Philadelphia was illegally armed with a handgun when he was arrested and will be charged with firearms violations and possession of marijuana.

The 13-year-old pedestrian was transported by ambulance to Abington Jefferson Hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The accident and criminal offenses remain an active investigation, police said.
