Recent Cheltenham grad enters high school without permission, pulls fire alarm while in possession of an airsoft gun

John Bowden, 19, a graduate of Cheltenham High School, entered the school on Wednesday, October 8 without permission and in possession of an airsoft Mac-10 machine gun, NBC10 reported.

“Every officer thought it was a real firearm,” an officer told NBC10.

According to their coverage, surveillance video showed Bowden pulling the fire alarm while inside the building, at which point police and fire crews responded to the scene.

NBC10 said the this was the second security breach on school property in recent weeks. A homeless man stayed overnight in a closet at the Cheltenham School District Administration Building on September 25.

The Cheltenham School District said in a statement to NBC10 that the safety of their students, faculty and staff are their highest priority and that they were reviewing all safety and security procedures. Specifics were not mentioned.

Bowden faces several criminal charges, including possession of a weapon, and is being held in Montgomery County Prison with $99,000 bail, NBC10 said.
