Proposed apartments in Fort Washington on the May 15th agenda for Upper Dublin’s Planning Commission

On April 18th, Upper Dublin Township’s Planning Commission reviewed a conditional use application from the Westrum Development Company to develop a 225-unit apartment community at 525 Virginia Drive in Fort Washington (Upper Dublin Township). The property is currently vacant.

The members of the planning commission made some recommendations and a revised application will be before the planning commission on Monday, May 15th at 7:00 p.m. (view agenda and documents).

The planning commission will consider whether to recommend to the board of commissioners to grant three conditional uses as outlined below:

  • The Applicant requests Conditional Use Approval, per Section 255-288(B)(5) of
the Zoning Ordinance, to permit an Apartment Development Use within the GFW
    Zoning District.
  • The Applicant requests Conditional Use Approval, per Section 255-166(A)(3) of
the Zoning Ordinance, to permit stormwater facilities within the Floodplain
    Conservation District.
  • The Applicant requests Conditional Use Approval, per Section 206-102.D.(3) of
the Stormwater Ordinance, to permit stormwater facilities (i.e., the detention basin)
to be located within the floodplain on the property.

In a future meeting, the board of commissioners will determine whether to grant or deny the conditional use application. The proposed apartment community was previously granted zoning relief from the township’s zoning hearing board.
