Primex Garden Center, 435 W Glenside Avenue, will be hosting a Winter Workshop Series every Saturday throughout January and February 2023.

Sign ups for each workshop will be available by the end of this week.

The first workshop will feature a houseplant demonstration scheduled for January 7 at 11:00am.

“One of our employees who works in the greenhouse will talk about fertilization, demonstrate how to pot the plants, and then you’ll get to do it yourself,” Courtney Paoli, Primex greenhouse associate, said.

Workshops going forward will include instruction on terrariums, floral arrangements, tool/kitchen supplies sharpening, fruit trees, and garden pests and diseases.

“People are the most affected by seasonal gloom over the winter months. We want to turn the blue into green,” Courtney said. “Houseplants are helpful because they have mental health benefits and air purification properties. There’s a lot of research about their effects on serotonin levels. Having something to take of is a metaphor for taking care of yourself.”

“We’re expecting a lot of gardens to pop up in the spring and summer because of the predicted recession,” Courtney said. “We think it’s important to teach workshops. This is the first year that we’ve done in-person demonstrations.”
