Portion of Limekiln Pike to close for three days for bridge rehabilitation

PennDOT has announced that Limekiln Pike (Route 152) is scheduled to close between Willow Grove Avenue and Mount Carmel Avenue in Cheltenham and Abington townships starting on Friday, January 15th at noon for bridge rehabilitation. The closure will run through January 18th at 5:00 a.m. The bridge carries Limekiln Pike over SEPTA’s Regional Rail Line.

During the closure, those traveling Limekiln Pike will be detoured over Mount Carmel Avenue and Easton Road. Local access will be maintained up to the construction zone. The schedule is weather dependent and subject to change.

This bridge improvement project is addressing deterioration and severe cracking observed during a recent bridge inspection. The bridge was built in 1959 and has a posted weight limit of 12 tons.

This $3,158, 574 project consists of removing and replacing the existing bridge superstructure, including concrete railroad protective barriers, parapets, and sidewalks. The contractor, Neshaminy Constructors, will also repair the existing abutments and footings, as well as install new approach guide rail, and concrete bridge approach slabs. The approach roadway will be resurfaced approximately 75-feet at each bridge end. The entire project is expected to be completed during the summer of 2021.
