The Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) have received reports of scam phone calls targeting members of the public.
“These calls appear to originate from official PSP station phone numbers and falsely claim to be a Pennsylvania State Police Lieutenant,” PSP said in a press release. “The callers attempt to intimidate recipients, insisting that they must pay fines immediately or face legal consequences.”
Police urge residents to “be wary of unsolicited phone calls, especially those that claim to be from law enforcement or government agencies” and said officers are currently investigating these incidents.
“In the meantime, we encourage the public to safeguard their personal and financial information. Please do not provide money or share financial details. The PSP does not ask for funds for any type of criminal reprieve, nor would we conduct business in this manner,” PSP said. “Additionally, we would never request payment in the form of prepaid gift cards.”
If you gave out personal information, gift cards, money or financial information, please contact your local police department.
