Police Suspect Arson in Abington School Storage Fire

On May 28, 2018, at 4:50 AM, Abington Police and Fire units were dispatched to the area of Patane Ave. and Reservoir Ave. as a response to a report of smoke in the area. As officers checked the property of the Center School, at 2450 Hamilton Ave., they found an old storage unit which was fully engulfed in flames. The Center School is an independent school providing education for children in grades one through eight who are diagnosed with language-based learning differences.

The fires completely destroyed the storage unit located approximately 80 feet from the school.  The storage unit’s contents were also destroyed in the fire which are valued at approximately $5,000 worth of furniture belonging to the school. Officers discovered  someone threw a brick through one of the windows of the school, which caused $500 worth of additional damages.

Early indications are that the fire was intentionally set. The arson and criminal mischief to the school are being investigated by the Abington Police Detective Division, the Abington Township Fire Marshal’s Office, and the PA State Police Fire Investigators.
