Philly Biz Journal covers MossRehab’s expansion, Elkins Park hospital’s closure

The Philadelphia Business Journal recently covered Jefferson Health’s plans to increase MossRehab’s physical rehabilitation services.

Elkins Park hospital’s acute care, general surgery, and emergency room services will be phased out in early June. The emergency room is set to close on June 30.

According to a Jefferson spokesperson, the motive behind the transition is two-fold: Elkins Park’s acute care and emergency medicine services have been underutilized, and physical rehabilitation services are expected to expand significantly over the next decade, both nationally and locally.

In a press release last month, Jefferson Health explained its overarching plan: MossRehab will expand in-patient physical rehabilitation services, and the Einstein Medical Center’s acute care, surgical, and emergency room services will be relocated to Jefferson Abington Hospital and Einstein’s Medical Center in Philadelphia.

Jefferson Health aims to retain the 115 employees affected by the transition.
