Pet of the Week: Alice

alice the cat

We’d like to get a regular feature started here on GlensideLocal, and to kick things off, here’s mine: Alice.

Alice is a “torty” Calico, now about 14 years old, and she packs in about 12 pounds on a small frame. She’s my little fluffy bowling ball.

People often wonder if you pick your pets or the other way around. I can definitely say Alice picked me. Fourteen years ago, my wife and I decided it was time to get a new kitten, and when she heard a co-worker had some to give away, we made a beeline to visit.

I had read that the best way to choose a cat or dog was to kneel on the floor and just wait to see which one came to you without any prodding. So that’s what I did.

There were about five kittens left, so I knelt down about six feet from where they were playing and the most adorable little torty calico walked right over to me and basically introduced herself.

That began what has turned out to be a 14-year love affair. At the house, you’ll rarely find Alice far from me, and during the day while working from my home office, you’ll find her curled up on my lap. Resistance is futile.
