Senator Maria Collett has announced that Pennypack Ecological Restoration Trust in Huntingdon Valley is the recipient of $300,000 for the acquisition of approximately 14.34 acres of land along Edgehill Road and Huntingdon Road for open space and passive recreation.
Pennypack acquired a parcel of land harboring old-growth oaks and beeches, a wetlands and a tributary to Pennypack Creek in July 2023.
“Investing in our outdoor recreational spaces and natural landscapes is not only what makes our communities such wonderful places to live and connect with one another, but it drives economic growth and development,” said Senator Collett. “I’m looking forward to seeing these projects come to fruition and I’m always proud to invest in initiatives that create accessible outdoor spaces.”
Other grant recipients in the 12th Senatorial District include:
- Lansdale Borough – $292,000 for the rehabilitation of the West Fifth Street Park including the renovation of the basketball court, construction of a parking area, the installation of play equipment, ADA access, landscaping, and other related site improvements.
- Lower Gwynedd Township – $250,000 for improvements in Oxford Park including the construction of a pedestrian walkway, the installation of play equipment, ADA access, landscaping, and other related site improvements.
- Upper Dublin Township – $35,000 to prepare a trail study for trail access and intersection improvements to the Green Ribbon Trail across Lower Gwynedd, Upper Dublin, Whitemarsh, and Whitpain Townships.
These projects are funded through the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation & Natural Resources’ Community Conservation Partnerships Program, which supports projects to develop new parks, rehabilitate existing spaces, and protect vital natural habitats.
