Penn State Abington grad, Jefferson Health to host celebration in honor of Veterans Day

Suzie Pepe, a graduate of Penn State Abington and Valley Forge Military College, will be hosting a celebration through Jefferson Health at Home by Bayada Hospice which will honor veteran volunteers and veteran hospice patients on Thursday, November 9 at the Lehman Church in Hatboro.

Pepe is the Hospice Volunteer Coordinator for Jefferson Health at Home by Bayada.

“This is the second time we’ve ever had this event, so I’m very excited to do it,” Pepe said. “It’s a nice way to stay a part of the military. As a veteran, our oath never expires. I like to believe that my volunteers who are veterans also believe that.”

Pepe swore into the United States Army the same week she graduated from Penn State Abington.

“There are options to volunteer after veterans have taken their oath,” Pepe said. “You can always lend a hand to a fallen comrade.

The event will feature speaker and Undersecretary of The Army, Patrick J. Murphy, as well as a rendition of the National Anthem by The Army Band.

“They’ll be supporting us with a few songs to liven up the event and after we honor our veteran patients who have passed since last year, they will play Taps,” she said. “I am expecting members of every branch to be attending and some local law enforcement.”

Pepe has been in contact with the Philadelphia Phillies and the Eagles to support the event as well.
