PECO expects ‘multi-day restoration effort’ of service due to yesterday’s storm

PECO announced this morning via letter that yesterday’s storm impacted service to more than 327,000 customers.

“Due to the extensive impact of the storm, we expect this to be a multi-day restoration effort, lasting through the weekend,” the letter said, noting that “estimated restoration times are currently suspended and will be updated as crews assess damage.”

Crews are expected work around the clock to restore service. If you would like to receive updates, you can do the following:

  • Customers experiencing any issues with their electric or natural gas service should contact PECO at 1-800-841-4141.
  • Customers also can easily report issues with electric service at peco.com using their phone, tablet or computer or through PECO’s mobile app.
  • PECO’s free mobile app allows customers to easily access their account information on the go. Customers can report an outage, stay up to date on the restoration status, pay their bill, check their usage and more. The PECO free mobile app is available through the App Store or Google Play.
    • Through our customer preference center, PECO customers can choose to receive a message via text, email or phone, when power is out in their area, when power is restored, or when the estimated restoration time for their outage changes. Customers should visit peco.com/alerts to sign up.
    • PECO also has a two-way texting program for outages. By texting “ADDOUTAGE” to MYPECO (697326), customers can enroll in the program, report outages and check the status of their outage through text messaging. To use this service a customer’s mobile number must be registered with their account.

Power outages count in greater Glenside according to PECO’s County/Municipal Outage Report as of 10:30am on Friday, June 20:

  • Abington: 77
  • Cheltenham: 46
  • Hatboro: 21
  • Jenkintown: 1
  • Lower Moreland: 19
  • Rockledge: 1
  • Springfield: 43
  • Upper Moreland: 69

Lower Moreland police announced that numerous traffic signals are out of service, and that Red Lion Road is closed between Pine Road and Philmont Avenue, and Welsh Road is closed in the area of Station Avenue.

Hatboro police said that the following roads remained closed or blocked due to downed trees or power lines.

  • E. County Line Rd/N Warminster Rd   
  • N. Warminster Rd/Corinthian Ave  
  • 466 Lincoln Avenue  
  • E. Monument Avenue/ N. Penn St  
  • Crooked Billet Rd/Academy Rd. 

Abington Township announced the following at 10:40am:

Streets impacted:

▪️ We have approximately 25 roads closed. Every road is related to either down power lines, poles or trees in power lines.
▪️ The largest roadways impacted are Washington Lane at Susquehanna Road (Rydal SEPTA bridge) and Fitzwatertown Road between Elliot Avenue and Lamott Avenue

Parks impacted:

▪️ Alverthorpe Park is closed to the public for storm clean-up. There is one prescheduled camp program that is taking place in the park already under the pavilion. The Park is expected to reopen at noon.
▪️ Rubicam Park basketball courts are closed due to a light pole being down on the courts.
▪️ We currently do not have power at several Parks, including Alverthorpe Park and Crestmont Clubhouse.

Program updates:

▪️ “Movie Under the Moon” is cancelled tonight at Alverthorpe Park due to storm damage and lack of power. It has been rescheduled to next Friday, June 27, 2025, at Alverthorpe Manor beginning at dusk.

PECO update:

▪️ 6,346 homes are without power across 78 individual outages.

Cooling and charging location:

▪️ The Abington Free Library and Roslyn Branch Library have power. Residents can go to the Abington Free Library to cool down or charge devices. Emergency Management will be accessing need for cooling and charging centers throughout the coming days.
