Following reports that Governor Josh Shapiro’s private residence in Abington Township is receiving roughly $1 million in security upgrades following the arson attack on the Governor’s Residence in Harrisburg in April, the Pennsylvania Senate Intergovernmental Operations Committee is preparing to send subpoenas to Pennsylvania State Police and Abington Township for more specifics, Spotlight PA reported.
The committee said multiple letters will be sent seeking documents “describing construction, landscaping, new equipment, and other security-related work” as well as “texts, emails, and other communications that provide details on how decisions were made about what upgrades to pursue”, Spotlight PA said.
The deadline for the information is reportedly December 3. Shapiro provided the following statement regarding the subpoenas:
The Pennsylvania state police received a letter from Senator Coleman on October 22, 2025. Pennsylvania State Police Colonel Christopher Paris and Department of General Services Secretary Reggie McNeil answered the questions in depth two days later on October 24, 2025 when they detailed the security upgrades being made as a result of the arson attack and assassination attempt.
According to a letter from the Department of General Services and Pennsylvania State Police sent on Friday to Pennsylvania House and Senate leaders, upgrades include “erecting physical and visual barriers on the property, installing enhanced security technology, and other steps”.
Senator Jarrett Coleman, the committee’s chair, said last month that “The Intergovernmental Operations Committee will continue to investigate how this decision was made and what steps are being taken to protect taxpayers as this unprecedented project is being completed.”
According to a September Spotlight PA article, more than $6 million in public dollars were spent on repairs to the Governor’s Residence over the past four months.
