Oreland Well in Springfield Township and the Flourtown Well in Cheltenham Township to receive funding for PFAS treatment systems

The Oreland Well in Springfield Township and the Flourtown Well in Cheltenham and Whitemarsh townships are to receive a portion of $16.9 million in principal forgiveness loans and low-interest loans through the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST), Aqua Pennsylvania announced.

Funding will support PFAS (perfluorooctanoic acid and perfluorooctane sulfonate) treatment systems. Construction on these treatment facilities is expected to be completed in late Winter 2027.

“Aqua Pennsylvania is committed to removing ‘forever chemicals’ from drinking water and we want to honor that commitment by reducing the financial burden to our customers,” said Aqua Pennsylvania President Marc Lucca. “I want to thank PENNVEST for its continued support. These funding opportunities allow us to aggressively tackle PFAS and cost-effectively deliver the highest quality drinking water to the communities we serve.”

In greater Glenside, a similar project is already underway and another has been completed.

In July 2025, State Representative Nancy Guenst, whose jurisdiction includes Bryn Athyn, Hatboro, Lower Moreland, Upper Moreland and part of Abington, announced a $7,000,000 project at the Hall Road facility in Abington Township.

The project will include construction of a treatment building addition, replacement of the well pump, and installation of one train of anion exchange filters with pre-filtration for treatment of PFAS. It is expected to be completed in March 2027.

In December 2024, Aqua Pennsylvania announced the completion of a PFAS treatment system at its Hatboro well station.
