Oreland ex-teacher/umpire/coach sentenced for sexually abusing 2 underage girls from Springfield and Cheltenham townships

Tyler James Degiacomo, 35, of Oreland (Springfield Township), was sentenced to 10 to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to three felony counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child, Mainline Media News reported today.

Degiacomo was initially arrested in June 2024 for his alleged role in the trafficking and sexual abuse of minors relating to at least four victims in Pennsylvania and Alabama. He was identified as a former substitute teacher and volunteer with the School District of Springfield Township and a PIAA umpire and baseball coach.

According to Mainline Media’s coverage from today, he had sexual contact with two underage girls (aged 14 and 15) between December 2023 and March 2024. Officials said he groomed the girls by providing alcohol and vape pens after meeting them through TikTok and/or Snapchat.

He will be classified as a sexually violent predator and was also ordered to complete six years of probation consecutive to parole. He faces a lifetime requirement to report his address to state police to comply with the state’s Sexual Offender Registration and Notification Act, Mainline Media said.

The investigation began in March 2024 when a concerned parent reported that she located child sexual abuse material on her daughter’s phone that was sent to a man in his 30’s named “Tyler”, Glenside Local reported last year. Detectives uncovered more than 110,000 interactions between Degiacomo and the girl when they reviewed the contents of his cellphone.

During the investigation, detectives discovered that a second girl from Cheltenham Township had inappropriate interactions with Degiacomo. The sexual assaults on the girls occurred at various locations, including at Degiacomo’s apartment, Mainline Media said.

After the execution of several search warrants, and through the use of digital forensic examinations of electronic devices, four victims were identified by detectives. A third victim was located in Clarion County and a fourth victim was located in Houston County, Alabama. Each alleged victim was contacted by Degiacomo on social media apps TikTok and/or Snapchat, police said last year.
