The Cheltenham Township Police Department announced that an automated weapon detection system flagged a person entering a local synagogue at 2:24pm today.

According to police, the initial report and surveillance footage suggested that the person was carrying a rifle.

Multiple police units from across the region responded and found that the object thought to be a rifle was benign. No injuries were reported and the scene has been cleared.
