J. Edward Shmidheiser, Jr. passed away peacefully on Friday, June 26th.  He was the eldest son of the late J. Edward Shmidheiser and Mary Armstrong Shmidheiser.  Ed was born in Glenside, PA.  He attended and graduated from Abington High School – class of 1956. He earned a business degree from Penn State Ogontz.  Ed began working for his father at Shmidheiser’s Hardware in Glenside.  He served in the Army from 1962 to 1964 as an MP.  Upon leaving the Army, he moved to Bushkill, PA where he became a lifetime resident.  His time in Bushkill helped foster his love of nature and the outdoors.  He spoke fondly of working for the Jones Family and Kittatinny Canoes and his long-time friend/employer Larry Bailey of Lawrence R. Bailey, Inc. – Land Surveyors of Stroudsburg, PA.

Ed loved to hike the trails along the Delaware River from Dingmans Falls to Shawnee, do research on old houses, cemeteries and many of the properties he and Larry Bailey surveyed.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, William F. Shmidheiser.

Ed is survived by his sister, Lynne Shmidheiser Rinius and his brother-in-law Al Rinius.  In addition, his three nephews Jamison Shmidheiser and his wife Marlow, Nicholas Rinius and his wife Amy and Andrew Rinius and his wife Jill, a great niece, two great nephews and numerous cousins.

 Memorial service and burial will be at the convenience of the family.
