Number of daily cases of Coronavirus tops 100 for the first time since May 17th

Montgomery County officials today announced that there are 111 new cases of Coronavirus in the county, of which 17 are from long-term care facilities. The total number of cases countywide is now 6,126.

Officials also announced 12 additional confirmed deaths due to Coronavirus. The total number of confirmed deaths due to Coronavirus is 548. Among the 548 confirmed deaths are 479 deaths from within long-term care facilities. The probable number of deaths, those without a lab test, is 179.

The 14-day total of positive tests is 1,397 with a daily average of 100 based on the county’s data. The goal set by the governor is to have a 14-day daily average of 30. The county is currently off that pace by 70.

Below is the latest local data:

  • Abington Township is at 393, which is six more than yesterday
    • There have been 43 overall deaths in Abington, which is one more than yesterday
  • Cheltenham Township is at 467, which is seven more than yesterday
    • There have been 31 deaths overall in Cheltenham
  • Jenkintown is at 27, which is the same as yesterday
    • There have been zero deaths in Jenkintown

The number of patients in county hospitals due to Coronavirus is in the low 260s. Approximately 24% are on a ventilator.

In regards to long-term care facilities, 94 facilities report that 1,734 residents and 628 staff members have had a positive test result. Not all are residents of Montgomery County.

From April 16th to May 15th the county’s testing sites have tested 5,855 individuals, have 5,707 results back, and 793 have tested positive. Over the past 25 days of testing, the positivity rate is 14%.
