No noticeable spike in cases of Coronavirus 11 days after Christmas

Since our last update on December 29th, Montgomery County’s COVID-19 data hub reports that there have been 2,015 new cases of Coronavirus in the county (see daily numbers below in grid). This brings the total number of cases countywide since the start of the pandemic to 34,456.

The number of cases from the most recent 14 days has decreased by 989 versus the previous 14 days. Cases from the most recent seven days have decreased by 149 versus the previous seven days.

It is now 11 days since Christmas and there has yet to be a noticeable spike. After Thanksgiving the daily number of cases reached over 600 on two days.

There have been 22 deaths due to Coronavirus reported between December 30th and January 4th. This brings the total number of deaths countywide since the start of the pandemic is 1,024.

The 14-day PCR positivity rate is 10.55% as of December 26th, which is slightly up from 10.24% as of December 24th. Having this number at 5% or under is considered suppression of the virus.

Hospitalizations remain virtually unchanged since December 29th when there were 443 patients in Montgomery County hospitals due to Coronavirus. As of December 4th, there are 445 patients. In mid-December, there were more than 540 patients in county hospitals. The number of Coronavirus patients in the ICU is 94 as of January 4th and 50 of those patients require a ventilator.

Locally, here are the current numbers:

  • Abington is at 2,495 cases, which is 122 more than since December 29th. There have been 88 deaths, which is two more than since December 29th
  • Cheltenham is 1,634 cases, which is 58 more than since December 29th. There have been 65 deaths, which is one more than since December 29th
  • Jenkintown is at 144 cases, which is eight more than since December 29th. There has been one death
  • Springfield is at 1,130 cases, which is 37 more than since December 29th. There have been 91 deaths
  • Rockledge is at 136 cases, which is seven more since December 29th. There has been one death
