New recycling containers coming to Jenkintown

Jenkintown Borough announced on December 1st that its residents will be receiving new 35-gallon lidded recycling containers. The wheeled containers will be purchased with a $60,470 grant awarded to Jenkintown by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. The grant application sought funding to help stimulate the Borough’s Curbside Recycling Collection Program through the purchase of the containers.

In early 2019, the Jenkintown Environmental Advisory Committee launched a pilot program where volunteers canvassed the town, monitoring waste needs and looking for creative ways to improve waste reduction and material reuse within the community. The lidded containers will keep recyclables dry which helps maintain the integrity of the recycling process as well as reducing contamination (when non-recyclables are mixed into recycling bins).

The date of when the containers will arrive at homes has not yet been announced.
