Jenkintown Borough recently received a zoning and use application for a new frozen yogurt shop at 401 York Road.

Applicant Ying Ye, a Jenkintown resident since 2023, said she plans to call the shop “Go Bananas Frozen Yogurt”. She said she’s hoping to acquire permits and begin construction soon, with a target opening sometime in August.

Ye has a background in the restaurant industry and told Glenside Local that the idea for the shop came from her daughter.

“We have kids now, and I realized that there are a lot of bars and entertainment in the area, but I sometimes have trouble finding a place to take my kids for a treat,” she said. “One day, my 12-year-old said she wanted a frozen yogurt, so I thought that sounded like a great idea for a new shop.”

“I want families to feel invited and cozy. We want to set up board games and maybe an arcade to create a place where kids feel safe and parents feel comfortable,” she said.

The location was Oswald’s Pharmacy until it closed in 2024. It has since been renovated.

Borough manager George Locke said the application is allowable and will be approved. We will have updates as they become available.
