State Rep. Napoleon Nelson, D-Montgomery, along with community leaders, wrote to Gov. Tom Wolf in support of a grant application submitted by Beth Sholom Synagogue. This letter follows a previous message sent by Nelson in October regarding the funding.
Beth Sholom applied for a grant for structural repairs through the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program in 2021. Built in Elkins Park in 1951, Beth Sholom is the only synagogue designed by world-renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright.
“Beth Sholom has been part of the Elkins Park community since 1951,” Nelson said. “Having been a beautiful centerpiece for decades and designated as a National Historic Landmark, it is paramount that we address the physical structure’s needs so that the congregation can continue their amazing outreach to the members of the community in need.”
