Abington open houses are from October 8 until October 12. See the firetrucks and live demonstrations, enjoy fun activities and tasty snacks, and learn some safety tips to protect your family at an Abington Township Fire Department (A.T.F.D.) 2018 Fire Prevention Week open houses. There will be five open houses; one at each A.T.F.D. fire house between October 8 and 12.
This year’s National Fire Prevention Association Fire Prevention Week theme, “Look. Listen. Learn. Be Aware. Fire can happen anywhere,” focuses on three steps people can take to reduce the chances of a fire starting, and how to escape safely if a fire happens. A.T.F.D.’s five volunteer fire companies Abington, McKinley, Roslyn, Weldon, and Edge Hill will provide families with important information that can literally save their homes or even their lives.
Children will learn how to safely escape a smoke-filled space by doing so in the safety of A.T.F.D.’s smoke house a trailer that fills with cool and harmless “smoke.” Children and interested parents can also put out a small, contained fire using a fire extinguisher, an experience that’s a confidence booster if a real need should arise.
The open houses are f fun for families. Everyone is invited to tour the stations, see the fire trucks, meet A.T.F.D. volunteers, enjoy some snacks, and watch fire fighters demonstrate the skills they use to keep Abington Township families safe.
