Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin R. Steele and Abington Township Police Chief Patrick Molloy announced that a murder-suicide occurred on the morning of Sunday, June 28 in the 3000 block of Spruce Avenue of Glenside.
According to the report, Abington police responded to a 911 call for a shooting at approximately 11:00am. Arriving officers found William “Billy” Maurer, 54, dead of a gunshot wound.
The shooter, Brandon Maurer, 28, was found suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said, noting that Brandon is the nephew of William.
Maurer was transported to Abington Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 11:39am. Other family members in the residence were not injured, police said.
A joint investigation by Montgomery County detectives and Abington police found that the two had been arguing when Brandon shot William, then shot himself.
