On Saturday, March 21, six organizations in the Pennypack Watershed joined forces to make a larger impact with their annual Creek Clean Up efforts. The organizations included: The Pennypack Ecological Restoration Trust, Upper Moreland Township, Lower Moreland Township, Lorimer Park, Pennypack Environmental Center and Riverfront North Partnership. Each partner held their own clean up events at designated sites. All participants gathered afterward for a party at the Pennypack Trust in Huntingdon Valley, made possible by key sponsor, the RG Group.

This watershed-wide effort was the brainchild of the Pennypack Trust’s Director of Education and Outreach, Kevin Roth. “This year’s Creek Clean-Up marks a big step forward for the Pennypack Trust,” said Roth. “In the past, we focused on a single site along the Pennypack Creek, but by partnering with five like-minded organizations, we’ve expanded our reach and increased our impact across the entire Pennypack Watershed. It’s exciting to see how collaboration can amplify what we can accomplish for the Pennypack Watershed. We look forward to adding more partners and expanding our efforts in 2027!”

At the party, the partners shared fun stats, like how many bags of trash they collected and unusual items they found. This year’s strangest find was a golden goose statue, still baring its $100 price tag, stumbled upon by the Pennypack Trust’s Jackie Carroll. The goose, which now serves as the trophy for the organization that collects the most trash, was presented to Lower Moreland Township’s Public Works Director, Stephen Woerner, as they hauled 52 full trash bags away from their site Valley Center Park.

The partners are embracing this forward motion by starting to plan for next year, as the Pennypack Environmental Center has already agreed to host next year’s after party. Along with refreshments, registered participants received a free T-shirt which will help to spread awareness and make next year’s clean up even more impactful. The Golden Goose Award will dwell in the Lower Moreland Township Administration Office until next year’s Creek Clean Up determines its next home.
