Mrs. Lucille Traynor, longtime math and computer science teacher at Bishop McDevitt High School in Wyncote, has passed away at 80

Mrs. Lucille Burns Traynor, a longtime mathematics and computer science teacher at Bishop McDevitt High School in Wyncote (Cheltenham Township), passed away on January 21 after a brief illness. She was 80 years old.

Mrs. Traynor was diagnosed with brain cancer in November 2025 “and faced her illness with strength, dignity, and grace,” her obituary said.

A 1964 graduate of John W. Hallahan Catholic Girls’ High School, Mrs. Traynor went on to receive an education degree from La Salle University. During her tenure at Bishop McDevitt High School, she served as Head of the Math Department and also taught at La Salle University and Beaver College (now Arcadia University).

“Lucille loved her students and took great pride in their accomplishments, often keeping in touch with them long after graduation,” her obituary said. “She deeply valued the camaraderie and lifelong friendships she shared with her fellow teachers, who became like family to her.”

A memorial gathering will be held on February 21, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 4700 Long Beach Blvd., Brant Beach, New Jersey 08008. Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m.
