Mr. Tom Livingston, Abington resident, award-winning reporter, and former managing editor of the Philadelphia Daily News, has died at 77

Mr. Tom Livingston, an Abington Township resident, award-winning reporter, and former managing editor of the Philadelphia Daily News, passed away on Wednesday, September 24, of cardiac arrest at his home. He was 77.

Mr. Livingston joined the Daily News (which is owned by The Philadelphia Inquirer, LLC) in 1975 “and rose rapidly to associate editor and managing editor,” his obituary said. As managing editor, he “oversaw the newsroom budget and syndicated features, including the comics, and represented the paper at sometimes testy town hall meetings with readers.”

Mr. Livingston left the Daily News in 1988 and established InterMedia Inc. He was also an executive editor for MetroKids magazine until his retirement in 2013.

He earned an award from the California Newspaper Publishers Association in 1968 for a series in the Arcadia Tribune about drug abuse, his obituary said.

A celebration of his life was held Sunday, September 28.
