Mr. Robert L. Ervin, Sr., Cheltenham grad, WWII Veteran, community volunteer, has passed away at 100

Mr. Robert L. Ervin, Sr., a graduate of Cheltenham High School and community volunteer, passed away on Monday, June 2 in Gwynedd. He was 100 years old.

Born in Wyncote, he was married to the late Elisabeth Ervin for almost 70 years until her death in May 2022 and served as Vice President and Account Supervisor for N.W. Ayer, his obituary said.

According to local historian Chuck Langerman, Mr. Ervin was a Varsity letter winner in football, basketball, and baseball at Cheltenham High. He was also a veteran of the Army Air Force during World War II, serving from 1943 to 1946.

A graduate of the Charles Morris Price School of Advertising and Journalism, he began his business career in the advertising department of Smith Kline and French Laboratories before moving on to the advertising agency field. One of his major accounts was the U.S. Army Recruiting Command where he was recognized for “Outstanding service during the formative years of the Volunteer Army.”

In addition to his business career, he served on the Whitpain Township Zoning Hearing Board for many years, chairing the Board for the last seven years of his service. He also co-chaired the 300th anniversary celebration of Whitpain Township and chaired the Board of Chestnut Hill Hospital when it was part of Chestnut Hill Health Care.

Services and interment at the Church of the Redeemer Cemetery will be held privately by the family.
