Mr. Joe Lutz, longtime Hatboro firefighter and police dispatcher, has passed away

Joseph W. Lutz, a Hatboro resident, 1956 Hatboro High School graduate, and longtime Enterprise Fire Company firefighter and dispatcher for the Hatboro and Horsham Police Departments, passed away on Thursday, September 19 at Christ’s Home Rehabilitation Center. He was 85.

After graduating from Hatboro High and Ursinus College (1960), Mr. Lutz worked for many years as an accountant for various local firms, his obituary said. He also served as treasurer for many community organizations including the Enterprise Fire Company and the Hatboro Relief Association.

Mr. Lutz began his firefighting career as a junior firefighter, moving on to serve as Deputy Chief and eventually Chief Engineer. He continued to serve as an active member of the company until he passed.

Mr. Lutz’s father, Merrill, served the company as well, according to his obituary.

“Whether working as a police dispatcher or firefighter, the First Responder community was dear to his heart,” his obituary said. “He dedicated over 67 years of service to Hatboro, including time on Borough Council. Joe was a man who enjoyed people and was quick to put them at ease. His great sense of humor and wit will surely be missed.”

A visitation will be held from on Saturday, September 28 from 10:00am to 12:00pm followed by a Memorial Service in Schneider Funeral Home, 431 N. York Road in Hatboro.

Donations may be sent to Enterprise Fire Company of Hatboro, 36 Byberry Road, or to the Union Library Company of Hatboro, 243 S. York Road, or Bux-Mont Meals on Wheels, 130 Spring Avenue in Hatboro.
