Mr. James Charles Williams, Jr., a military veteran, court crier, and retired detective in charge for the Springfield Township Police Department, passed away on July 30. He was 74.

A Conshohocken native and 1969 graduate of Archbishop Kennedy High School, Mr. Williams went on to receive an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Montgomery County Community College, his obituary said. He served the United States Army and in Berlin, Germany as a military policeman, and later joined the Springfield Township Police Department for 27 years, retiring as the detective in charge.

“Detective Williams joined the Springfield Township Police Department on July 1, 1975, and dedicated 27 years of service to our community before retiring on August 2, 2002,” the department said in a post. “During his career, Jim served as a Police Officer and Detective, including serving as Detective in Charge.”

For the next 15 years, he was employed as a court crier for the Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas, his obituary said. 

There will be a celebration of Jim’s life on Monday, August 10th at Flourtown Country Club 150 McCloskey Rd Flourtown PA from 4 pm to 8 pm.  Family remembrances and military honors will be held at 6PM.
