Mr. Franklin Samuel Tibbs, Jenkintown High School graduate, retired longtime educator, and former professional baseball player, has passed away at 86

Mr. Franklin Samuel Tibbs, a graduate of Jenkintown High School, retired longtime educator, and former professional baseball player, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 27. He was 86.

Mr. Tibbs attended Temple University and Bloomsburg University before earning a master’s degree from Villanova University, according to his obituary. He began teaching in the Lower Merion School District and moved on to the West Chester Area School District where he served as a teacher and an administrator, retiring in 1999.

Earlier in life, Mr. Tibbs was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates. He played minor league baseball “for a few years while simultaneously embarking on his teaching career,” his obituary said.

“Frank continued to play in adult baseball leagues well into his forties and also enjoyed golf and tennis for many years, showcasing his athleticism and competitive spirit,” his obituary said.

Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation on Wednesday, April 1, 2026 at the DellaVecchia, Reilly, Smith & Boyd Funeral Home, Inc. 410 N. Church St. West Chester, PA 19380, from 4-5:45pm, followed his Memorial Service at 6pm. Interment will be private.
