Mr. Bruce L. Castor, a former Abington resident, retired partner at the Ballard Spahr law firm, and Army veteran, passed away on Tuesday, July 29, of heart failure at his home. He was 95.

Mr. Castor worked at Ballard Spahr for 48 years, from 1956 to his retirement in 2004. He was a Ruling Elder and Trustee of Abington Presbyterian Church, President of the Board of Directors of Meadowbrook School, and a member/secretary of Huntingdon Valley Country Club, his obituary said.

A retired member of the Bar of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, Mr. Castor was a member of the American Bar Association, the Pennsylvania Bar Association, the Philadelphia Bar Association, and the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel. 

Mr. Castor was drafted into the Army in 1954 after law school and served two years as a counterintelligence agent in West Germany, his obituary said.

His son, Bruce L. Castor Jr., is a current resident of Abington Township and served as Montgomery County’s district attorney from 2000 to 2008. He appointed his father as a special assistant DA for a time to handle fraud cases concerning wills, estates, and trusts.

Visitation with the family was held today at Abington Presbyterian Church. Donations in his name may be made to the Montgomery County SPCA, 19 E. Ridge Pike, Box 222, Conshohocken, Pa. 19428.
