The Lower Moreland Police Department has shared the details from the arrest of Kimberly Dumont, 30, for driving a stolen vehicle, unauthorized use of a car, and improper child restraint systems.
According to officials, officers patrolling the area of Philmont Avenue in Huntingdon Valley received a stolen vehicle report from the VIPR license plate reader software on March 24 at approximately 11:30pm.
The alert suggested that a Chevy Equinox was traveling north on Philmont Avenue and had been stolen from Philadelphia.
A traffic stop was initiated on Philmont Ave approaching Byberry Road, during which officers met and spoke with the driver, identified as Kimberly Dumont. Dumont had her three small children in the backseat of the vehicle, two of whom appeared to be approximately 3-4 years old and were not secured in any child safety seat or booster seat, officials said.
The third child, an infant, was secured in a child safety seat, though it was later determined that the seat was not fastened to the vehicle by either the vehicle’s seatbelt or any other child safety clip device.
Officers were unable to determine how Dumont came into possession of the vehicle. She was taken into custody for receiving stolen property and other charges. The children were left in the care of Dumont’s mother, police said.
Dumont’s charges include:
(1) COUNT OF RECEIVING STOLEN PROPERTY
(1) COUNT OF UNAUTH USE MOTOR/OTHER VEHICLES
(1) COUNT OF IMPROP CHILD RESTRAINT SYSTEMS
(2) RESTRAINT SYSTEMS – CHILD BOOSTER SEAT
