Montgomery County to regularly inspect its 92 local gun stores, first in PA to do so

Montgomery County will begin regularly inspecting its 92 gun stores to ensure they’re complying with state and federal law. The effort makes the county the first in Pennsylvania to make such a pledge.

County Sheriff Sean Kilkenny said the decision was made to curb gun crimes and will include sending sales records to state police for review. Failure to meet legal standards will result in a shop’s license being revoked.

Notification letters were sent to gun store owners on Monday.

According to The Inquirer, gun stores are inspected every 10 years by the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, but visits from local authorities are rare.
