Montgomery County Sheriff deputy charged with ‘child pornography-related offenses’, suspended indefinitely

James “Chris” Buckley, 57, a deputy with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department, has been charged with child pornography-related offenses by authorities in Cape May County, New Jersey.

According to the Sheriff’s statement, the department learned of Buckley’s activities on Tuesday, February 20. He was arrested that day on charges of endangering the welfare of a child for possession and distribution of child pornography.

Buckley was immediately suspended pending the results of an ongoing investigation, officials said.

According to police, an investigation uncovered various child sexual abuse materials were “possessed and distributed” via an iCloud account that belonged to Buckley.

“As an agency committed to upholding the law and maintaining the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and accountability, we take these allegations extremely seriously,” the statement said. “The MCSO is cooperating fully with the appropriate authorities and conducting a requisite internal review.”

Montgomery County Sheriff Sean Kilkenny called the situation “an affront to the public’s trust.”

The Office said further statements will not be provided until the investigation is complete. More information or inquiries related to this case are directed to the Cape May Prosecutor’s Office at 609-465-1135.
